Working With Young Adult Offenders
Switchback is a new organisation designed to work with young adult offenders, starting in the prison kitchens and supporting them in further training at the Skylight cafe in the heart of the financial district.
What?
Switchback were given a grant to contribute to their core start up costs for the first year setting up their catering training and workplacement service for young people who are leaving prison.
Why?
Getting a job after leaving prison is extremely difficult, most people leave prison with no useful skills and are very vulnerable due to lack of any funds or support to help them get settled into society again.
Switchback are trying to fill this gap in support and create a model that shows to both ex offenders, to the public and to policy makers that with the right kind of support there can be life after prison.
Outcomes?
Switchback have managed to get over 20 people successfully into training at the cafe where they are based in Shoreditch. They are finessing their model and we look forward to seeing what 2009 brings them.
