Helping & Supporting Young People

Into University was set up to address the deep inequalities in the British education system.  The facts are stark: if you happen to be born into an economically deprived family, you are far less likely to do well at school or go on to tertiary education.  Into University works hard to overcome these inequalities at its independent centres which takes groups of young people from neighbouring schools from age 6 to 18.

What?

We have given the Into University team a multi year grant to contribute to core costs to run these centres.

Why?

Into University are at an exciting stage, with centres in West London, Brent, Lambeth and a further three by 2010.  Their model demonstrates that high quality care can help young people from deprived backgrounds get to university or achieve a range of other aspirations that they may not have previously aimed for.

Outcomes?

We will be looking at the impact of their work through the take up of their innovative programmes by young people, and by trying to follow some of the different stories of achievement in the longer term.
